Upstairs Casings around the windows

January 29, 2009

Mike and his crew have made some progress upstairs.  I admire this skill more than almost anything becuae any time I have had to cut two 45s to join together on molding, I have to fill it with putty and paint it to make it look decent.

The plan is to complete upstairs and them move downstairs.  They have hung the doors upstairs. next they will do around the windows, then the base boards, then the crown molding.  Somewhere in there they will do little things like closet shelves.  They have done a lot of the closets.

More of the Pavers

Casings in the light

January 23, 2009

Ava and I went by the house at Lunch time today and met Mike Dickens – the fellow who is doing the doors and the trim work inside the house.  Seemed like a nice enough guy.

Here are a few photos of what he has been up to this week:

Casings, doors and pavers

January 22, 2009

The arched casings are at the house. Pacers for the porches are there and ready to get set.

It was kinda dark when I stopped by, but the doors are up in the girls roomsand guest room.

Snow Days

January 21, 2009

Depending on who you ask – G Vegas got 4 inches to a foot of snow yesterday (012009).  The City was paralyzed and no one was working.  Including the folks who should have been hanging doors at the house.  But, I wanted to drop by and see what it looked like in the snow.

Porches getting ready for Pavers

They poured the cement on the porches as a base layer for the Pavers….

The Doors are Spreading

January 21, 2009

I walked through the house on Monday to see if the Trim Guys were there as promised.  Of course not.  It was 2 in the afternoon and it looked like they had put all of the doors near where they were supposed to be installed.  They were staging their attack.

After looking at these , we decided we wanted a French Door from the foyer to the office.  Much like the one you see from the master Bedroom to the Master Bath.

This is the Garage door we are going to go with

January 14, 2009

No real cost difference so we went for the one with the bow on it.

Trim Guy is delayed building a trellis somewhere else.  Guy is working on drainage for the yard this week.  Poured the cement for the porches today, will start laying pavers tomorrow if there is no ice.

People are strange when you’re a stranger

January 14, 2009

… Faces look ugly when you’re alone
Women seem wicked when you’re unwanted
Streets are un-even when you’re down
When you’re strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you’re strange
No one remembers your name

Could not think of anything else to write about the doors, so I quoted a little “The Doors” for you.  Good luck getting that out of your noggin for the next three hours.

doors-011309Our great room is full of Doors that they should be starting to set today.  I don’t know because it is too cold for me to go over there!  WoodTech also loaded up the garage with most of our molding and they should be in there putting everything together for the next 4-5 weeks.

Suzy has started dressing up the house to put it on the market.  She has done an awesome Job despite the fact that she has four children holding onto her pants leg 16 hours a day.  She has had some preliminary talks with a Realtor to list th house and met with a “Stager” to see what we need to do to dress the place up to sell.  I kinda feel like the answer is “look out the back window, there is a golf course there” but in today’s economic times, we can not be too careful.  Suzy has gotten together a list of furniture to stash somewhere and is making her way around the house boxing up the clutter that drives me nutso anyway.

The Girls are having a hard time with understanding the Move.  Both of them start to cry when we talk about it, which is hard since I am so excited!  I just odnt think that they understand all of our stuff is going with us, everyone in our family is going too – they are not changing schools or towns.  Just going to sleep and string toys around a different dwelling.  I guess its just something foreign that they may be too young to grasp

OK – dry your eyes, that’s the update.

Fireplace Rocks are completed

January 14, 2009

After a little bit of waffling, we finally decided on what to do at the bottom of the keeping room fireplace.  Our concern was that a raised hearth might  be something that the children could trip over, so we opted to sink some thin Blue Stone into the flooring and try to make a low or level hearth.

I can not tell you how excited I am about the way these turned out.  The Stone crafter was  true artist and I think it is really going to dress up the house!
