Screened In Back Porch

May 31, 2009

We were over at the house today trying to decide if poster beds would fit where we want for the girls room.  We walked around the back of the house to see the screened in porch.  It was cool and shaded back there – I can’t wait to have breakfast back there.

But first, we are going to have to take care of the little “prince of the forest” that is chewing on my holly bushes on the corner of the house.  I think Fireside’s Rosie Glow will chase him off.  If not, some of my red neck friends have a more permanent solution.

Knobs

May 27, 2009

We knocked out a couple of decisions today for the doorknobs.

Greeley Handle In Flat Black for Front Entry Doors and Side Door, medium bronze on the inside (shown)

Inside we used the Elan Levers in Oil Rubbed Bronze on the double doors going into the closets.

Regular Egg Handle with Regular Rosette in Oil Rubbed Bronze

but in the girls rooms, we decided to go with the fancy ones – also oil rubbed bronze.

We were worried because they are the only brown on the outside, but I think they turned put well.

Updated Stain photos from Downstairs

May 22, 2009

When we went in last night, something seemed different.  It took me a few minutes to put my finger on it.  Yes, they had cleaned up and removed some of the extras.  For example the large rack they stored wood on in the garage is gone.  Obviously, the boxes for the stairwell parts were no longer needed so they took those out.  But that wasn’t it.  Finally it dawned on me that they had finished staining the downstairs trim.  Seems like everything they are doing right now has color!  Nice

We have had a lot of debate about whether to stain or paint those cabinets in the keeping room.  We specked them for Stain Quality wood, so cheap old me wants to take advantage of what we paid for.  Other parties want them painted to lighten up the room.  We stained them because we can always go back and paint them later, but if we paint them first, we can never go to stain.

Have a good Memorial Day weekend and be safe!

Balled and Burlapped and even planted

May 22, 2009

Megan and I went by late yesterday afternoon to pick up some information that Len left at the house.  We were surprised and excited to see that the Elm Trees were set out beside the driveway.  We have one of those between our current house and our neighbors and it has grown quickly and Meg loves to climb it.  I am sure we will climb these too.  They’ve also delivered some Cypress(?) trees for along the back of the lot and even planted 2 hollies!

Its good to see the Green around the house.
