Curb Appeal

June 26, 2009

This is the one part of the Project where JW Truly has no say.   Knows the difference between confederate Jasmine and Poison Ivy, but that’s about it.  Russell Askew and Suzy meet yesterday to finalize the plans and move some stuff around.  Russell’s staff has been there for a few days raking the yard to get the debris out.  Some others were clearing the Natural Area out behind the house to make sure that no briars or whatever were there.  They should be selecting our trees today and starting the installation next week.

Suzy has decided to put in some sort of Bluegrass instead of Zoysia or Centipede.  That kinda worries me since we have never had to maintain that type of grass.

No, not the Carl Spackler Bluegrass:  This is a hybrid. This is a cross, ah, Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensemilia. The amazing stuff about this is, that you can play 36 holes on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt that night on this stuff. Here, I’ve got pounds of this.”

This may be our last post before the big reveal.  Can’t wait to see the finished product!

Screen Door

June 26, 2009

The Screen Doors on our current screened in porch have been nothing but Trouble.  Screens blow out, door slams hard, and they are all in all pretty rickety.  It was not hard to talk us into something else.  Len Suggested we buy a storm door that has glass in it AND a screen so that we could keep glass in the bottom (where the kids push) and a screen in the top.  It turned out nicely.

Cabinet Knobs, Pulls, & Handles

June 26, 2009

Picking out the Cabinet Pulls, Knobs and Handles was probably the hardest decision we had to make .  We struggled to find a manufacturer that could provide us with the class of handle, look we wanted and then not be too ornate for the peanut butter were are going t smear all over them while chasing kiddos.

Hear is what we came up with.  They should be installed by now:

Carpet is Getting Installed

June 26, 2009

If you go inside the house, its almost done. They are just finishing up a few details like Cabinet handles, a few lights are missing and they need to do some touch up painting.  I am sure they are waiting until the traffic dies down and all the guys working over there clear out before they touch the walls up.

The last big thing on the inside is the carpeting.  They put the padding down most of the day yesterday.  Those carpet tacks still hurt when you step on them.  They got the 3rd floor finished   (I’m broken of calling it the man room anymore…. not for 20 years.  I am going to start referring to it as the Tree House).  the carpet that was chosen is Frisa (Frizzy?).  It’s Shag carpet without the wide open collars and BeeGees playing.  I don’t care what anyone else says.   But, the lush pile carpet we bough for the current house always looks like crap because of the 6 people and the dog walking on it – shows every footprint.  This carpet is supposed to look better.  We will see because its in every room.

We set the date!!!

June 23, 2009

Yesterday we booked Advanced Moving and Storage to move us on July 16th and 17th.

We are going to have a crazy July. We go on Vacation with the Schmidt’s the first week. Blair’s the second week. Come home on Sunday and Suzy has Jury Duty on Monday. All that week we are going to pack some each night and move some stuff ourselves. Mostly plants, really fragile stuff, underwear. Stuff we don’t want someone else handling. Should be Crazy but an exciting time.

But these are supposed to be there

June 21, 2009

In the coming months, Wes, Nick, Megan, Ava and Rosie are going to get some stains on the floor. Suzy went over to the house yesterday and peeked in to take these shots of the stained hardwoods. Looks great! I can’t wait to get home and see them for myself.

Two Randoms

June 19, 2009

Here is a shot of the half bath with the sink and the lights above….. notice the dist on that thing from the floor sanders.  We (read:  Suzy) had to pick out a differnt mirror becuase the one we picked for there didn’t look right on that wall.  it is a weird shaped wall and you can either center something on the wall or the sink but not both.  Originally we choose Wall and it looked crooked.   So we are going with Sink.

The Second shot is of the double ovens.  Orinially I took it wondering if we wanted to put a bigger handle on that drawer (or Draw as they say on This Old House) but the handle choices are normal and 13 inches…. That would be overkill.  But I still had the photo so I thought I would post it.

Updated views of the outside

I dawned on me that I had not put anything up about the outside for a while so I took these shots to keep you posted.

I wonder what that weird hook is over the Screened in Porch?

Sand the Floor

June 19, 2009

I want to make some joke about the Karate Kid here, but cant think of anything clever.

They came in and sanded the floors yesterday.  Dust is EVERYWHERE.  But its neat to see the even smooth floor down there.  This will be the best they look until we have them redone when the boys move out.
