Fireplace inserts

July 5, 2009

Fireplace insert (070409)The Fireplace inserts are in.  They look awesome.  Wesley likes to stand on our current hearth and yell like Chewbacka.  Nick likes to put the rocks in his mouth.  So we have a dog gate over the opening.   So when you are picturing the “look”   imagine a plastic dog grate over this.

Boys Room

July 5, 2009

The Boys are gong to share a room for the foreseeable future and we are going to use the other room as a guest room.

We have not decided which room which of th eboys are gong to get when they get older.  Kinda depends on who sleeps later because of the sun and the positioning of the house.

But, I think Wesley has already picked out the one he wants:

Kids Favorite Hiding Spot

July 5, 2009

Over the garage we have set aside a kids play room where they can hang out, play, get away….

But right now, they really like to hide in the built in cabinets/ window seats

This place is Cooking

July 5, 2009

When we got back in town yesterday.  Our first stop was the new house to see what was going on.  Its a lot of little things right now, the finishing touches.  Doorknobs are in.  Cabinet fdoors are hung.  Switchplates are on.  Then, we walk through the kitchen, twice before we notice that their is a big old Fridge sitting there!

Wow – I lot has been going on while we were gone

They guys put in a couple of rolls of that Sod last Saturday.  Its been pretty hot and that shows in the picture of it beside our driveway.  They finished clearing the debris off the hill behind our house and planted a tree on it.  It was mostly pines so we put up a hard wood.

Curb Appeal

June 26, 2009

This is the one part of the Project where JW Truly has no say.   Knows the difference between confederate Jasmine and Poison Ivy, but that’s about it.  Russell Askew and Suzy meet yesterday to finalize the plans and move some stuff around.  Russell’s staff has been there for a few days raking the yard to get the debris out.  Some others were clearing the Natural Area out behind the house to make sure that no briars or whatever were there.  They should be selecting our trees today and starting the installation next week.

Suzy has decided to put in some sort of Bluegrass instead of Zoysia or Centipede.  That kinda worries me since we have never had to maintain that type of grass.

No, not the Carl Spackler Bluegrass:  This is a hybrid. This is a cross, ah, Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensemilia. The amazing stuff about this is, that you can play 36 holes on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt that night on this stuff. Here, I’ve got pounds of this.”

This may be our last post before the big reveal.  Can’t wait to see the finished product!

Screen Door

June 26, 2009

The Screen Doors on our current screened in porch have been nothing but Trouble.  Screens blow out, door slams hard, and they are all in all pretty rickety.  It was not hard to talk us into something else.  Len Suggested we buy a storm door that has glass in it AND a screen so that we could keep glass in the bottom (where the kids push) and a screen in the top.  It turned out nicely.

Cabinet Knobs, Pulls, & Handles

June 26, 2009

Picking out the Cabinet Pulls, Knobs and Handles was probably the hardest decision we had to make .  We struggled to find a manufacturer that could provide us with the class of handle, look we wanted and then not be too ornate for the peanut butter were are going t smear all over them while chasing kiddos.

Hear is what we came up with.  They should be installed by now:
